Write for the record
What a good piece looks like
The archive is written mostly by its keepers, with occasional credited guest pieces. If you want to write one, this is what we look for:
- First-person and specific — one village, one winter, one kitchen, one word; what you saw and were told, not a summary of a region
- Names spelled the way locals say them — with the speaker named and thanked, where they are comfortable being named
- Roughly 600 to 1,200 words — shorter is fine; a single word with its meaning is a record too
- Photographs welcome — with location, month, and who took them; we publish with credit
- Documentation, not promotion — no advertorials, no operations language; HWN documents, it does not operate
Your byline stays on your words, in the archive, for as long as the archive stands. We edit gently, and with you.
